The Structure
The old Ingolstadt fortress was destroyed in 1800. Between 1828 and 1848, the new state fortress was constructed. Regrettably, most fortifications were destroyed in the Second World War, but fortunately Reduit Tilly, one of Germany´s finest, survived. It played a key role in defending the bridgehead. Its facade was designed by Leo von Klenze, who was one of Germay´s most influential architects in the first half of the 19th century.
